Dinner at LilleAsia

1 comment - May 31, 2012 6:06 PM - category: 365 Days, Cravings

After the aforementioned blog-challenge at EGER we all headed up to Hegdehaugsveien to enjoy some Asian food at Lille Asia. And my god, after 2-3 hours of being served 6 courses of sashimi, nagiri, maki and warm Thai food, I could barely move (but it was worth it). I can honestly say it’s the best sushi I’ve had in Oslo. <— I did not get paid to say that, although they did bribe me with seriously delicious food.

It was nice to meet all my bloggers again (or at least some of them) And to have the table filled with SLRs and smart phones does have it’s charm. Lille Asia was documented on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook during the evening, obviously the “if a tree falls in the forest“-philosophy will never apply to us. Four and a half out of five stars. Domo arigato !

Summer in the air

2 comments - 10:53 AM - category: 365 Days

I’m back in Kristiansand again for a couple of days, after a weekend that should have been a lot longer in Oslo. You never really do get time to meet every single person you want to meet, and do everything you want to do. Even though all I really did in the capital city was eat ice cream and sleep on the grass in various parks while working on that tan.  Today at least I am going to drink my share of coffee and get some work done before I travel to Sweden this weekend to visit more friends.

Good luck with your exams/final days of work/summer vacation/ice cream eating. This summer is going to be a good one, I can feel it !

Fashion Hawaiian style

So… Høyer Egertorget invited a handful of very sweet and very talented fashion bloggers (and me) to a night of macaroons, cava,  sushi and a styling contest yesterday at their Karl Johan location. We got 20-ish minutes to style an outfit out of at least 3 different brands in the Høyer collection, and then pose like the bloggers we are for the photographer. All the pictures are up on the Høyer-blog now, and the one who gets the most facebook-likes will win an Alexander Wang bag.

So if you want me to walk around with that smashing little thing called Kirsten by Alexander Wang on my arm, you need to head over to the blog and vote for me. Or vote for someone else. I think we all looked pretty above average-y.

When Tuesday feels like Sunday

Yesterday was spent dancing and singing with Kanye West and Jay-Z at Telenor Arena, followed by more dancing (and some singing) at Jaeger to the DJ set of legendary producer Mike Dean. Today was spent cleaning up the mess that was my tired body and exhausted mind. Breakfast at Grünerløkka with Maja dressed in my most comfortable clothes, followed by window-shopping around town was and is really the perfect cure.

It really did feel like a Sunday, as we dragged our bodies through town seeing familiar faces on every street corner and taking breaks at the coffee shops every once in a while because walking is tiresome.  The sun was shining most of the time, the birds were chirping and the coffee (and the bacon at Nighthawk Diner) kept me going. But now that energy has slowly evaporated and I am left feeling dead tired, so without further ado: good night !

The more successfully a city mingles everyday diversity of uses and users in its everyday streets, the more successfully, casually (and economically) its people thereby enliven and support well-located parks that can thus give back grace and delight to their neighborhoods instead of vacuity. ”  - Jane Jacobs

Yes, this is in fact an outfit post, been a while since the last one. I really like these shorts. That’s really all I have to say. Good night !

Raspberries and strawberries

Why use ice cubes when you can use frozen raspberries ? Yesterday was spent in the sun at Maja‘s and then in Torshovdalen, with BBQ, strawberries, chips and raspberry water as given essentials. Oslo is treating me wonderfully (hence the non-existent updates on the blog), and hopefully it will continue to do so for the next few days as I continue to eat grilled food, drink countless amounts of water, get sunburnt and watch Jay-Z and Kanye West live tomorrow evening.

Enjoy the sun, and keep away from your computer this week, it’s summer !

Those of you who follow me on instagram know that this last week or so has been filled with sun, summer, Indian food, Madame Bovary and kiwi. For those of you who do not follow my sometimes pointless picture posts, but may now feel an urge to get updates on what I eat for lunch, what kind of coffee mug I chose for my coffee this morning and tiny glimpses of interior from the new apartment (yes, my childhood home is officially sold), just type in “mbjorgum” in Instagram’s search field and then click follow. My addiction to the app is limitless.

Skippy Dies

4 comments - May 21, 2012 1:38 PM - category: Books

“Ignoring is what you are supposed to do with bullies, so they get bored and leave you alone. But the problem in school is that they don’t get bored, because whatever else there is to do is more boring still.”

The last couple of years I have been lost in a cross-over hybrid country of fantasy literature and “old” literature – with a notable few exceptions – so when I started reading something not fantasy-related that came out only two years I ago I felt like I was breaching a secret contract set between me and my library. I picked up Skippy Dies on the airport at the beginning of my trip to Honolulu last year, and it joined the never-ending list of books I intend to read but never do read, until now.

Skippy Dies starts – appropriately given the title – with Skippy dying. What follows is a funny, tragic, perverse but kind-of cute story about Skippy, his friends, his classmates, his school, his teachers and the events leading up to The Event where Skippy dies. It is that kind of perverse that you only get when the setting is the world of 14-year-old puberty-ridden boys at a Catholic boarding school. Add one or two pedophile individuals, a neighboring-but-oh-so-far-away all-girl’s school, prescriptive drugs, alcohol, science  and a 15-year-old psychopath named Carl, and you start wondering how on earth you can finish the book having laughed instead of crying. Like I did. In a sort of tragicomic sort of way.

I wont say that I didn’t feel like putting down the book a couple of times, out of disgust or embarrassment for the characters, but it was in a way to addictive and too cleverly written to completely turn me away. And in the end, that is always a good thing.

What book are you reading right now?

Blissful silence

1 comment - May 20, 2012 1:38 PM - category: 365 Days

Instead of doing, you know .. stuff, I decided to spend the day on the balcony finishing the novel Skippy Dies and drinking mango smoothie. The temperature outside isn’t all that, but I am comfortably buried in blankets, fleece jackets, scarves and woolen socks, so I wont be freezing anytime soon. I am enjoying this newfound freedom of not having to do anything (except maybe taking my dog for a walk once or twice a day) and while I like doing 50 things at the same time I am going to treasure the next week of silent bliss before I am back to business.

Syttende mai

Not only is the 17 of May Norway’s birthday, it is also my grandmother’s birthday and it was celebrated at our new place with lunch and cakes and our very small family. This year’s celebration for my part was spent at home (except for a short trip in the parade to represent the family and walk with Kristiansand Orienteering), and I fell asleep around 7 or 8. Not much of a wild party animal that day I’m afraid. For the Norwegians among you, how was your day?

Jet-lagging

SWEATER h&m PANTS jenny for bikbok BAG forever21 NECKLACE confirmation gift from my grandmother

Been home now for 3 days now and the jet lag is still raging on. I wake up at 5am every morning, just in time to watch the sun rise in the company of a cup of coffee/tea while the entire world is still asleep (most of it anyways). The plane ride took its toll on my health and I am currently enjoying a good old Norwegian cold, with soar throat, clogged nose and fever all over the place. Feels authentic though considering my usual condition in Norwegian springs, and the temperature back home invites to countless hours spent under a blanket with warm liquids and something to read.

Glad I will not have to brave the winter in Norway anytime soon (at least not the next two years), because Hawaii has obviously made my Viking immune system slow and weak. Haha.

Have a nice weekend, lovelies & thanks for reading!

Today is Norway’s Constitutional Day. This means flags, traditional costumes, marching bands and loads of good food. I will celebrate the day with my family, still a bit jet lagged but otherwise OK. Have a wonderful day everyone !

I’m currently hanging out at Starbucks on Honolulu International Airport, grinding my teeth at the world and everything after having spent an hour fighting the system aka airline people. Everything that can go wrong has gone wrong and I have feeling the entire trip will continue this way. Luckily I have my home waiting at the end of the trip and dinner and my family and my friends.

Goodbye Honolulu, aloha Seattle, Amsterdam and Kristiansand !

a walk in the park

Yesterday was spent (for the most part) in Fort DeRussy, celebrating Alexander’s birthday the way we celebrate anything in Waikiki; with BBQ, sunshine and attractive Scandinavians. I geeked out on the iPad – my new sidekick – while I tried to not burn my shoulder’s even more (unsuccessfully I might add). Today will be spent packing, and then I’m off to Norway tomorrow evening. Currently wishing I had one more week to get everything done AND hang out with people simultaneously, but you can’t have everything in life, and right now I am just giving up sleep for the most part.

Karpe diem and such. Have a nice week !

In 2004 I started to write down what books I read in order to keep track of them all. Since 2006 I have gathered them here instead of in my notebook and they serve as a reminder of how I should read more and compete to beat my old “record”. You can find the complete list here.
