All things good

1 comment - September 30, 2011 11:45 PM - category: Fashion

Rick Owen, Manish Arora*2, Lanvin, D&G and Acne.

Colors, patterns, graphic prints, white, glitters, leather, denim and all things good. These are my favorite looks from the spring/summer collections. I want to wear the D&G collection to the beach, the scarves and the colors are just perfect. The pink pants with the tie dye at the bottom from Manish Arora are welcome in my closet as well, not to mention the green skirt.

Do you have any favorites so far from this season?

Week-end, how I have missed you

SKIRT brandy melville TOP flat top BAG filippa k

TGIF. Haven’t longed for the week-end this much since I lived in Norway. Had to get up at 05:45 today to finish an assignment for my communication class because I decided to delete the entire thing last night out of pure perfectionist madness. The final result was blah, and the one I had ready last night was probably a lot better, but sometimes I give into that tiny streak of crazy I have in me and ruin all things good. This week-end starts with a bang, literally, because like all weekends here in Honolulu the Friday night fireworks take care of that. Other than that I will crawl into a fetal position on the floor and watch the latest episodes of The Secret Circle, Vampire Diaries, Dr Who and anything else slightly fantasy or sci-fi-related that I can get my hands on.

Do you like my skirt btw? Bought it weeks ago but just forgot about it because I’ve been in a shorts-mode. It’s from a cool boutique on Ala Moana called Brandy Melville that has become a new favorite of mine. Rumi Neely (fashiontoast) and her fellow SoCal beach hippies are obviously inspirational sources for the clothes, which are all in the category of “one size fits all”.

Like always: the picture does not do it justice.

Simple, classic, but with a tiny edge to it. I love it.

I am not really a skirt person, I usually don’t do skirts unless they are high-waisted and big and flow-y and possible in the maxi-category. But after a couple of weeks of wearing shorts all the time (and discovering that a dress cannot be paired with anything but itself in this climate) I bowed down for the pressure and started on a magical treasure hunt which resulted in this skirt. Tight-fitted and light blue, two things I would never have expected from a skirt of my choosing, but life’s full of surprises.

In other news I am starting to get sort of tanned-ish, my speech in for the Public Speaking class went a lot better than what I had expected (an A if I am not mistaken), the average temperature in Honolulu is still about 28°C and I have developed an addiction to Froot Loops and those delicious cookies from Chips Ahoy! . And yeah, I met Wo Fat at the gym the other day (well, Mark Dacascos to be correct). That was awesome. He is awesome. He plays the bad guy in Hawaii FIVE-0 for those of you who wondered.

I think I’ve asked you this before, but I will ask you again anyhow: Do you watch Hawaii FIVE-0?

I love this video, made by graduating students at Bilder Nordic School of Photography for their photographic project NORWAYnext. It’s neat.

A little dose of inspiration

In this land of the sun I am feeling the tribal/gypsy/hobo-style creeping in and my affiliation with anything that contains multi-colored patterns, crochet, tassels, beads and whatnot is growing stronger day by day. By the end of the year my wardrobe will be converted into a cluster of Native American ebay-finds, beaded bracelets from the beach stalls, crochet dresses, flowery kimono-styled jackets and leather bags. Wish me luck.

Army green in paradise

4 comments - 7:05 AM - category: New in, What I Wear

While Honolulu is a place where summer rules all year long and winter is represented by Santa Claus surfing the waves at Waikiki Beach, the air conditioning in some of the classrooms at HPU are so chilly I am certain I will come down with a cold soon if I don’t start bringing an extra sweater to class. So the timing for the arrival of this army green jacket from 5preview could not have been more perfect. NOW I am off to the gym to hang out with celebrities (and sweat away all the froot loops I’ve been eating this week-end).

Felt the need to shop till you drop a little bit more and stopped by American Apparel the other day on my way home from school. Care to guess what I ended up buying?

Warriors vs UC Davis

2 comments - September 26, 2011 7:04 PM - category: Life in Hawaii

After I got back to Waikiki on Saturday, I joined our crew of Norwegians to watch the Warriors play against UC David at Aloha Stadium. Dressed in blue I was a traitor amongst the UH fans, but I was able to get my hands on a Warrior t-shirt before the game started. Drank beer on the parking lot surrounded by people who’d either been partying or BBQ-ing since noon, before making our way into the stadium to watch the Warriors crush UC Davis.

Cheerleaders, marching bands, and a dance team was in attendance to entertain what the StarAdvertiser called “a sparse Aloha Stadium crowd of 28,268.” I actually like American football, the past few years I have been watching NFL-games in the middle of the night while I am doing homework or generally not sleeping, but it was weird to see a game live for once. Will do this again.

Final score: UH Warriors 56 – UC Davis 14.

Any American football fans out there?

Beach bum

The perfect way to spend a Sunday morning: tanning on the beach. And I need tanning, badly. The problem with living here is that you don’t really have the time to go to the beach all the time, or … well, you do, but when it’s that accessible all the time you sort of forget that it’s there. So while 3 hours of free time could be spent on the beach you usually end up doing homework or drinking coffee at some coffee shop instead. But then you remember it when week-end comes, or you have a day off and you pack a towel and bottle of water and walk the 600 meters that lie between the apartment and the beach to get your act together and look like you live in Hawaii.

Today’s mission: tanned front.

In 14 glorious hours I will be flying up into the skies to do a thing that goes against everything that comes to natural to a human being, I am going to jump out of an airplane. Good thing I don’t have fear of heights like my partner-in-crime Malin. I am actually starting to get nervous about the fact that I am not nervous (if that’s possible).

But until then I will spend the evening at home (we’re supposed to wake up at 6:15 tomorrow, so no partying tonight) watching Disney-related movies (Enchanted, Penelope).

Have a nice Friday/Saturday, peeps !

Like som many others I have fallen in love with the iPhone app Instagram, the app that changes your crappy iPhone pictures into photos worthy of at least a tweet. It is also the image-version of twitter, at least in my case, so if you want to see what I am up to when I am not tweeting, blogging or facebooking; add me (username: mbjorgum).

Do you have/use instagram?

In 2004 I started to write down what books I read in order to keep track of them all. Since 2006 I have gathered them here instead of in my notebook and they serve as a reminder of how I should read more and compete to beat my old “record”. You can find the complete list here.
