hove – day 1

12 comments - June 30, 2010 11:15 AM - category: Festival, Music

Yesterday was absolutely amazing. Sang my throat sore, danced my feet to the bottom of no return and was so sweaty and smelly after jumping up and down for hours that I am amazed people stuck with me through-out the evening.

The day started with BBQ and then KAKKMADDAFAKKA. My absolute favorite band from Bergen made me dance, jump and sing (like they always do) and were the crowd pleasers they’re known to be. Like always, the concert ended too soon, which gave me some time to breath and gather up my strength again. Like I told Marita, this could have been the only concert I’d gone to that day, and I would still be more than pleased with the day’s activities.

Went back to the camp to eat over-synthetic candy (those watermelon slices were SICK – in a good way) and get our energy levels refilled before it was time for Alexisonfire and then Paramore. Didn’t really get any good photos, because I was to busy just chillin’ around and looking cool.

Kine found a cowboy hat by the road. We felt it fitted my outfit perfectly, so I got to borrow it for a couple of hours. And what an ice breaker, EVERYONE talks to the girl in the cowboy hat, it’s just the way of the world or something. I felt so cool.

And then Muse entered the stage and I lost all control and fooled all the people in a 10 meter radius to believe I was a crazy drunk by trying to head bang and jump up&down at the same time. (Note to self: it doesn’t work). Sang till I couldn’t sing no more, screamed until my voice had the sound of a crow and then it was over.

Finished the day off with Empire of the Sun, danced my already sore feet to bloody pulps, then limped back to the car and drove home. Longest 1 hour drive I ever had. Was so hungry my stomach screamed for food, and all the gas stations we passed were closed. I thought gas stations were supposed to be open 24/7? Apparently not.

Well, today I am going back to Arendal, and staying there for the remainder of the week-end. So I need to pack-pack-pack. BTW, thanks to all of you who came up to me to say hello, hug me or take pictures, I felt quite out-of-place and my friends believe I am some sort of celebrity now. Which is something I can live with as long as they allow me to be a diva about it. But yeah, thank you!

SHORTS levi’s SHIRT weekday BELT vintage ACCESSORIES inwear/karma/asos BAG zara BOOTS nilson

Some stupid weather person has predicted rain tonight, which will not be tolerated. I will walk around in my shorts cursing at the skies if the guy is right. I don’t do rain-wear, especially  not on festivals. Let’s hope it doesn’t start raining, for my sake (and the sake of my camera) shall we.

Will not stop pestering you about this. Finally, the theatrical trailer for the movie I am dying to see this year. First part anyways, the second part doesn’t premier until next year. Harry Potter has been a big part of my life for over 10 years, and to see it all end, well this is melancholy on a high level. Goosebumps, tears and all that. Hopefully this will be the best movie in the series, and looking at the trailer it certainly looks like it’s going to be just that.

festival fashion?

3 comments - 9:20 AM - category: Fashion, Festival

Spent all of last night trying to figure out what I wanted to wear today. Not that I am going for anything extravagant, it just has to be the perfect combination of chill, chic and cool. Harder to pull together than one thinks. As of right now the only thing I’ve agreed with myself on is the fact that I’ll be wearing my boots and levi’s jeans shorts. Wish I had an appropriate hat, but unfortunately I don’t. Have been browsing through the celeb styles from Glastonbury, and once again I have 3 favorites: Emma, Kate (when it comes to festivals she is the queen of grunge and mud) and Sienna.

Praying for good weather, mosquito-free zone and a perfect festival day with all the hipsters of the world (or at least Norway) at Hove. I’ve packed my camera, sunscreen and sunglasses, and am ready to face and overcome just about anything. Except a mosquito attack. I will go home if there are too many of those blood-sucking killing machines there. Seriously.

HOVE here I come. Got my festival pass, got my tax money (hopefully, will have to check with the bank tomorrow, seeing as I am unable to check it online), my sunscreen and although I don’t know where I am going to sleep at the moment, I will figure it out. Somehow.. Worst-case scenario: sleeping under Marita&Kine’s car. Let’s hope it doesn’t come down to that…

Anyways, will I be seeing any of you there?

mosquito

After a weekend of orienteering an hour drive north of Oslo I am finally back home in Kristiansand. No internet + mosquitoes everywhere + sunburned skin = well.. I feel sorry for the people who had to live with me the last 3 days. Sorry. Got into a violent fight with the mosquitoes two nights in a row, which meant no sleep and mosquito bites everywhere, including 3 under my left eye. Itchy ! After this weekend, mosquitoes have taken the top spot of creature I fear the most in the world, surpassing snakes and the Groke, and I have come to the realization that I will not under any circumstances EVER buy myself a cabin or house anywhere near mosquito-infested areas (which rules out most of inland-Norway).

Tomorrow I am going to spend the entire day washing and polishing  my mum’s car in order to earn enough money for a ticket to the Hove festival on Tuesday. Can’t miss out on Kakkmaddafakka, Muse, Alexisonfire, Empire of the Sun and (I’m a little ashamed to admit this, but) Paramore. So good night to you, only 5 1/2 hours until morning. :)

Today I am going to have this song on repeat the entire ride to Drammen. Had forgotten how much I love Kaizers Orchestra, they really are one of my favorite bands. Makes me proud to be Norwegian, really, their music is so well made and the fact that they are actually singing in Norwegian (and making it sound cool) is pure genious. And of course; Jannove is so incredibly hot, in the way that only musicians can be. Want proof, just take a look at this live clip from their concert @ Vega:

DRESS day birger et mikkelsen SHIRT weekday BAG vintage/paris AVIATORS rayban

Awoke this morning to roll out of the bed and out on the terrace to sleep some more. Not the smartest thing I could’ve done, I realize now, when I’m sitting here with a red face, chest and legs. So kids, remember to use sun protection. My summer vacation mantra of doing nothing important at all is working out quite nicely. I have spent massive amounts of time in the sun, with friends, without friends, with football on TV and without football on TV, and can conclude with the fact that I am quite good at doing nothing important.

Want to quote some guy’s dad right now, because that old man really has gotten the essence of it all: Look, we’re basically on earth to shit and fuck. So unless your job’s to help people shit or fuck, it’s not that important, so relax.

Today’s nothingness include a BBQ and sunbathing. And packing, which sort of ruins the nothingness, as I am going to spend time in Oslo this weekend. Can’t wait.

What are you doing this summer?

Today will be spent on my hands and knees out on the terrace, washing and painting it. Luckily for me the sun is shining, and it’s so hot outside I can’t do nothing but be outside. Spent all of yesterday (or at least a couple of hours of it) looking for a bikini, only to reach the conclusion that there are only three types of bikinis available in Kristiansand:
1) Bikinis on acid.
2) Bikinis that fall a part after one dip in the water.
3) A combination of the two.
I might not have been in the mood to go bikini-shopping in the first place, so I am willing to give it another try later, but right now I’m stuck with the two I’ve got from H&M (they’re about 5 years old and does not look good on me any more).

Well, back to work. Have a nice day, peepz.

I discovered the Norwegian brand Leash not so long ago when I received a t-shirt (from Eva) from their latest collection. The fabric and the fit was so comfortable it soon became one of my most used items. Realizing that I actually know the designers Sjur and Stian from their involvement in the club concept Neverland, I decided to ask them some questions about their brand. On the question of where they get their inspiration, the Oslo-based design duo were quite specific: “This collection, as well as the concept behind the brand, is inspired by the strength and rawness of Greyhound race dogs. The clothes definitely have a sports wear feel to them, while still aiming towards high fashion.” Illustrations, architecture and street style is also important inspirational sources for the two guys who describes their ideal customer as someone who appreciates quality and uniqueness over cheap mass production. “Someone who makes the garment their own.”

With a wish to inspire people through their t-shirts, and to see their work styled with the creativity of different individuals, they are currently working on their next collection. “We are going to Portugal at the end of this month to produce samples for next spring’s collection. We are sticking to the t-shirt as a main garment, but will make variations in length. Our focus will be on spring/summer for our first few seasons and then we will expand when we are ready.”

This is how I want this summer to be. Unbearably hot-hot-hot. And absolutely smokin’.

LEATHER JACKET bikbok DRESS gina tricot BOOTS nilson BAG zara SHADES local firm

Ended up wearing my hair loose and over my left shoulder in the wedding, and felt quite happy with the ensemble. Day-look into party-look, this is what I am wearing tonight. Boots instead of heels, leather jacket and no belt and voila! “Everyone” is going out in Kristiansand tonight, so obviously I need to take a stroll by the city centre to smell the air of alcohol, sweat and drunkenness. I always find it fascinating to be sober amongst drunk or semi-drunk people. To witness the madness and absurdity from the outside. People have written books about the subject, looking at it from the outside and inside the drowsy haze where all morals are thrown out the window and the “think twice before you do something stupid”-rule cease to involve you. I find it very quite fascinating, albeit disturbing, and fun.

What are your views on excessive drinking?

So hot and refreshingly different in color than the black I always end up with. Suede ancle boots from the award-winning Danish designer Camilla Skovgaard.

“I look at my shoes as individual pieces of work, each one requiring its own special attention,” says Camilla. “I felt that a lot of the new shoes being produced were reactions to short-lived fashion trends as opposed to statements of true elegance and timeless style.”

You can find them here.

Does anyone know where I can find a jacket that looks somewhat like this one? Think it is perfection, especially now during those summer months when you need a light jacket to pull on when it gets a just a little chilly in the aftenoon/evening. Also trying to find some black leather pants, but the ones I’ve found are either too tight or have a weird fit. Hard to be a size L, you don’t look good in just about anything like those size XS /S people, but you can still look quite good in a short if you just find the right one.. But you never find the right one. GAH.
