The apartment is slowly starting to take shape, as we bring in new stuff little by little.
This is where I sleep. And dream. And such. Took me 6 months before I finally got a bed.
My postal code.
My former bookshelves have turned into a shoe shelf. They stay here while I run around in my converse. Or barefoot.
My favorite Marc by Marc Jacobs.
My very limited collection of books. The rest are on my nook. It’s a hassle trying to not buy books, but they are very inconvenient when you know that you wont be living in a place permanently.

A kitchen story
I want a kitchen like this, a kitchen that smells like honey and bread fresh out of the oven. A kitchen filled with pots of fresh basil, rosemary, peppermint, parsley and chives. Sweet fruit, the smell of freshly ground coffee, a worn-out wooden table with straw chairs that you can curl up in while you read the morning paper. A kitchen where you can make delicious food, and someone to make that delicious food. Tea cups of odd sizes and colors, coffee cups from every corner of this earth, a framed picture on the wall put together by pictures from Norway, Hawaii, France and Israel, and all the other places I’ve visited. Large windows and flowers on the table. That is what I want.
$2.99 for goodwill
Stopped by the Goodwill store on Saturday in the hopes of finding something that might resemble a bookshelf, and while this wasn’t exactly what I had in mind, I think it worked out splendidly. At least as a temporary solution while I continue my search for old wine cases. But this means that I finally got my stuff off the floor, which is great news for me and not so great news for all the bugs looking to plant permanent nests in them. Not that there are too many insects here, Hawaii is known for their cockroaches apparently, but I have only seen one since I got here (squished to death on the sidewalk), so I’m starting to think it’s all rumors to keep people away from this paradise.
Well, I’m off to school to be productive and whatnot. I need my “tall, black coffee, no sugar” from Starbucks, and I am still damaged after I got there yesterday to find the shop closed because of Columbus Day. I was close to tears really, I can’t have school from 8:30am to 8:15pm without my regular dose of caffein, it just doesn’t work that way. So they better not be closed today.
New in: Sofa
We have a sofa. Which means the the interior of our living room now consist of a sofa, a lamp, a small bookshelf and some pillows. Impressive huh? I will allow myself to add a “LOL” here. We are really living the simple student life style in Waikiki: sleeping on air mattresses on the floor, doing our homework while sitting on the floor, washing our dished by hand since we don’t have a washing machine.
That’s what you get when you rent an unfurnished apartment and then turn out to be too lazy to furnish it. Not complaining though, I like it simple. Less things means less mess. Easier cleaning. I prefer to use the money on something worthwhile, like good food, clothing or the event I am looking forward to with dread-filled joy; skydiving on Saturday. I will climb into an airplane, fly up into the sky and then jump out of it. I think I might have been crazy when I suggested this, but here goes. On the list of 100 things you need to do before you die, sky diving has always been on my top 20-list.
Have you ever been crazy/stupid enough to sky dive?
The room behind the closed door
“It’s not much, but it’s home”
Just got home from a day spent with the Norwegians in Honolulu, arranged by ANSA. Quiz, beer-contests, “create the most creative Baywatch-scene on the beach”-session and miming, before we finished it all off with a big party at one of the clubs in Waikiki. Tomorrow I’ll be spending my day at Walmart (for the third time since I got here, gotta love Walmart) to get the necessities to survive in an unfurnished apartment. Need some shelves of some sort, towels, sheets, a fan, things to clean/scrub/sterilize everything twice a day so we don’t get cockroaches or bugs, and just about everything save a bed. we also need to acquire a sofa, but we’re hoping to find one in a salvation army store or something like that. Feels weird to start from scratch again, but I am sort of loving it.
Vivaldi & Tea
Right now I am curled up in the sofa with a cup of tea, listening to Vivaldi, while still in some sort of victory rush after Barcelona’s victory over Manchester in the Champions League Final. What I really wanted to ask you was if you can give me some recommendations for new music I can listen to? You can find most of the music I listen to over at my page on last.fm, if you want to know what type of music I usually listen to or like. I need to find some new favorites.
welcome to my humble abode
messrs cough, sneeze, fever & headache
Spent all of last day and night with Messrs. Cough, Sneeze, Fever and HeadAche. They are slightly less annoying today, but they keep on insisting to stay, they just don’t understand the deal concerning boundaries. I need boundaries, guys! For real. Other than their presence I am enjoying life at home, it’s warm, I don’t have to cook anything, there’s Christmas cookies of different kinds in the cupboard and unlimited amounts of Christmas soda and Pepsi Max in the fridge. I can live with this. And Christmas music of the kind that includes songs from the Harry Potter soundtrack and Sarah Brightman tunes makes me feel like I am filled to the brim with gingerbread and mulled wine. YUM!
One of the perks of coming home to Kristiansand is the Christmas calendar that awaits half way up the stairs to the second-floor. It was embroidered by my grand-mother many years ago and Santa’s Little Helpers come every night to fill the gift bags with small presents, like candy or school supplies. Today we got mentos. Yum.
Do you have a Christmas calendar?
blog about it
After having read EXPHIL for a couple of hours, I decided to clean and re-arrange some things in my apartment, and among other things I made these drawings/posters/whatever you can call them. I am pondering whether to color them or not, but I think I will leave them black/white for the time being. The blog-picture is inspired by a similar one I found over at weheartit ages ago, can’t seem to find it again though.
But right now I am going to chasse and pas de bourrée, pas de chat and changement myself all the way out to Oppsal to make gingerbread cookies with my dancing girls.
