A winter day in New York
♥
black, white and red light district

In the city that never sleeps, what you do at night is just as important as what you do during the daylight hours. I spent my night time divided between Manhattan and Brooklyn (Williamsburg), eating out every day, visiting Ninja restaurants, places that served milkshake with alcohol, bars with bartenders ranging from age 21 to 84, and drank beer out of paper bags while hanging out in Lars Erik’s room. We went to party/chill at places like The Chelsea Hotel, Le Bain, A60, Waverly In, and loads of places which names I can’t recall, but still managed (I am not entirely sure how) to wake up in time to meet our professor at 8am every morning to spend between 6-12 hours roaming the city looking at all it’s great architecture and art. I’ve learned so much, and I can’t wait to put it to good use while writing my essay, and when I am going to classes in my two other art history subjects this semester. But I digress, what I wanted to say was that NYC night life is just about everything you always thought it would be, and if it isn’t, I must have been lucky. For real !

i left my heart in NYC

Home, sweet home. After 11 days of art, coffee, Manhattan, Williamsburg, late nights and early mornings I am back and have spent the last 14 hours in coma-induced sleep. And I already miss NYC. Unlike last time, I was able to get a better hold on the city this time, understand what is where, and experience random strokes of awesomeness as the passed by in all their glory. I will never forget the trip to Galleri Sand (and the view from the roof top terrace), or seeing the Madonna on the wall in Nelson’s dining room, or just the small things like taking the subway home from Brooklyn at 5:30 in the morning, Starbucks breakfast with Lars Erik every morning, taking pictures with my new Holga camera (and the instant camera as well), Einar dressed up as Andy Warhol or spending 12 hours at the Met.
For the time being, I left my heart in NYC.

instant camera

The beautiful people I am surrounding myself with on this trip. And yeah, I bought myself a instant camera. I’m in love. PS! I’m sorry for the short updates, but we’re in the city that never sleeps, so to keep up we don’t sleep either. Have any last minute New York-tips on what to do on a Sunday? Tell me now!

art in the new world

Small update from New York. We’ve been running all over town the last couple of days, visiting everything worth seeing from Ellis Island in the south to The Cloisters in the north. Left Manhattan to go out in Brooklyn last night, and experienced party life in industrialized buildings with hits for kids and a city that never sleeps. Took the subway home at around 5 with what seemed like half of Manhattan, and collapsed in bed only to wake up 3 hours later for class. Tired day in other words, but nothing that a large cup of black coffee can’t fix. So far we’ve had lectures from 8am to 18-10 pm every day, so my brain is malfunctioning due to massive information overload. It’s fantastic, and I love it. But now New York night life is requesting my presence, so I’ll leave you with a note that I am still very much in love with the city and am currently planning on staying here forever.

only hipsters wear 3D glasses

While it is a tad bit colder in New York than what I would have wanted, I am currently enjoying myself immensely. Starbucks is just across the street, SoHo just around the corner and I get to see all the galleries and buildings that I have only read about or seen in movies before. Well, OK that is not entirely true, I saw a lot of them last December, but now I get to see more-more-more. Clap your hands say yeah! and so forth. I am planning to raid some vintage/second-hand shops and flea markets on one of the afternoons when we get some time off, but I need tips. So far I’ve only heard about Screaming Mimi’s and Alice Underground so I am open for suggestions of any kind as long as they are located on Manhattan. Ready – set – go!

c e n t r a l p a r k

My morning stroll in Central Park resulted in some pictures that will be good memories I think. Even though Central Park was freezing cold at 8am, it was full of joggers and people walking their dogs. Made me wish that I could live here, go for walks in this park every morning, while drinking coffee and taking pictures.
This was of course before the snow started falling, and New York stopped working.
Right now it looks like we’re driving to Philadelphia and then boarding a plane there to get to Denver.

day after tomorrow

2012 meets Day After Tomorrow = it’s the first blizzard in New York. All planes are cancelled, and we’re stuck in the city for now. Let’s see what the day brings.

good morning, New York

All settled in New York, and it’s already day 2 here in The City. Yesterday started with a complementary upgrade, which moved me from a crappy seat in the front next to two (although very nice) ladies with a baby, to the first class. Perks of flying alone. 5 course dinner, red wine, High Society on tv and a seat with enough room for 2 persons. I could get used to that.
Arrived in New York, took a taxi to the hotel (Hotel Parker Meridien on Manhattan), left the luggage there and then jumped into another taxi to meet up with the family at Ground Zero. Obligatory Starbucks Coffee, followed by some obligatory sports stores (my dad needed a Canada Goose jakcet and my sister bought a North Face jacket) and a quick and cold stroll down Broadway.
It’s definitely winter in NY, but it’s the wind that kills you, more than the actual degrees. Today the family went for a morning jog in Central Park, while me, myself and I went walking (and taking pictures). New computer (!) and no photoshop means that I wont be able to upload any good pictures until I get to Aspen on Sunday. So you’ll have to settle for a picture from Central Park.
Toodles.
