Things I Enjoy In Life #1: Going to supermarkets and grocery stores in foreign countries.
All the different foods, brands, tastes and candy that you don’t have at home. Buying cheese, fruit, chocolate and wine, big boxes of mozzarella, cherry tomatoes, salt biscuits, wasabi-flavoured chips, spanish red wine for a fifth of the price, milka chocolate and nuts of every kind, take them back to the hotel and have a feast while watching a movie. Some of my best days have been spent doing just that.

Got to Milan yesterday, went out to eat and get to know the city, got back to the hotel at around 6pm, and fell into some sort of Sleeping Beauty-induced sleep. Woke up 15 hours later, and I am still sort of tired, but more ready to explore the city today. Second time in Milan, but first time that lasted more than 21 hours. Corso Garibaldi is the first stop today. I need some breakfast. Preferably a lot of breakfast.
Have you ever been in Milan?

Inspiration where art thou? #shakespeare #essay #fml

Pia braided my hair for me when we were in Peschici, which proved to be the perfect way to deal with hair as thick and long as mine when the summer heat is slightly unbearable (not that I am complaining, the weather was fantastic compared to the cold gushes of wind we have in Norway right now).
Last day in Rome today, and then we’re going home. Let’s all hope it works out OK, even though the calendar tells us that the date is 10.10.10. Quite possibly apocalyptic, don’t you think? I expect thunder, lightening and disaster. Or at least a minor techincal break-down. We’ll see. Back to ordinary life and blogging tomorrow, see you all then :)

Peschici is the summer holiday I didn’t have this summer.

I’ve arrived in Rome, left Rome, arrived in Saracena, left Saracena and right now we are situated in Peschici on the east coast of Italy. The weather treats me wonderfully, so wonderfully in fact that I am planning to spend the rest of the evening inside, afraid that I might get sunburned by the evening sun. Short summary of the last few days goes something like this:

We’ve been spending a lot of time driving through the country side in Italy by bus.

I successfully finished one of my essays on the bus on Thursday, while Sofie sat next to me reading some youth novel that seemed so much more tempting.

While the kids were doing homework, my dad and Egil is doing the whole “shirt+ray ban”-style while chillin’.

After seven or eight hours spent on a bus we arrived in the sleepy mountain village Saracena. And I officially panicked when I realized that there were no internet connection available in the village. How on earth would I survive?

I didn’t. I began taking hundreds of crappy self-timer pictures of myself..

.. and my shoes, before I finally surrendered and started working on my next essay. I hate school.

We were welcomed by the residents of the town, including the mayor, and was treated to a great dinner at the town square with speeches from the mayor and others.

The next day we got some exercise done, hiking to the nearest top and feeling awfully proud of ourselves. We are travelling with a bunch of old people, which can work wonders for your self-confidence when it comes to hiking. These are old people that run orienteering, so naturally they are a lot more trained than your average old person, but you can still beat them when it comes to speed (well, most of them).

We met a cow.

And a cat. Wild life rocks.

Then we got down to business and ran orienteering, which is what we are here to do.

As well as spreading the word about the World’s Greatest Orienteering Club: Kristiansand OK.

Another five or six hours of bus yesterday took us from Serecena to Peschici not far from Foggia in the southern parts of Italy.
And now finally I am back online! Thank God.
BTW, what do you think of the new design? I am not sure if I like it or not.

When I was in Italy, I got to see U2 live. And just to make it better, I managed to sneak us into the golden circle, which meant frontrow “seats”to the show. I was so close I could touch Bono. Amazing.

Sick stage. Sick stadium. San Siro. 80.000 people filled up those seats.

Happy happy.

Snow Patrol was the warm-up band. So cute.

Bono. The Man Himself.

Adam Clayton.

The Edge aka. David Howell Evans.

We had one day off from orienteering when we were in the Dolomites, and I used that day to drive to Milan to watch U2 live (pictures will come when I have my compactcamera back), and on the way we stopped at the Lake Garda to eat icecream and take a dip. The two last days of our Italian vacation was spent in Venice. Lovely.

This last week has been spent in Italy, more specifically in St Martino in the Dolomites. The reason for this visit was the 5day orienteering-event Primiero 2009. Fun and fearless with the family.

2) Dad driving. 3) The hotel. 4) Me. 5) Eating lunch. 6) My sister. 7) Orienteering in fantastic landscapes. 8) The best ice tea I’ve ever tasted.

I am happily sunburned, have perfectly ruined in my knees/ankles/heel/head, I am dehydrated, sleep-deprived and in a constant rush of joy. I love this place. Cervinia, the place to be. And the waiter at the restaurant we ate lunch today looked like Ed Westwick(Chuck Bass)’s slightly less handsome younger brother. Haha!

I am never coming home. I am rediscovering the wonders of Easter Break.

I’ve landed in Cervinia and can’t wait to get out cruisin’ in the slopes tomorrow. I got my share of Starbucks skinny latte with cinnamon at the airport in Amsterdam (we NEED starbucks in Norway), read some chapters in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and took ego pictures with my little sisters. Very OK day in other words..
